Describe one viable natural cause for our current global warming trend on Earth

  1. One viable natural cause for the current global warming trend on Earth is the distance between the Earth and the sun. The Earth does not orbit in a perfect circle around the sun, rather it goes in an ellipse. This means that when the Earth is closer to the sun, it is naturally going to be warmer.

  2. One viable natural cause for our current global warming trend on Earth are natural forrest fires. The fires release the CO2 that is stored in trees, which increases the amount of greenhouse gas. Ultimately, this process raises the temperature of the atmosphere.

One viable natural cause for the current global warming trend are volcanic eruptions. The eruptions release heat into the atmosphere, increasing gases, particles, and pollution. This is harmful to the trend of global warming, because the atmosphere retains heat in which the heating of the Earth's surface and oceans can cause changes in the gases. Thus, it amplifies temperature change within the atmosphere, causing a current global warming trend on Earth.

    3. Group 1,
Cows releasing methane into the atmosphere is a natural cause of global warming. After cows eat they release methane into the atmosphere by burping and going to the bathroom. Methane is a much more potent greenhouse gas than CO2, so a little more methane in the atmosphere can have the same warming effect as a lot of CO2.

  3. A variable natural cause for our current global warming trend on Earth is Earth's orbit around the sun. Based off of it's elliptical shape, it results in the climate change that occurs on Earth. If the elliptical shape is closer to the sun, it will result in a warmer climate change.

  4. There are studies that have been done by using the dating of tree rings, and ice patterns that show that there is a cyclical trend in the warming and cooling of the globe. These are the same trends that caused the ice ages and the cooling and warming in history. Also, that these trends happened before the industrial revolution shows that there is a natural cycle to global warming and cooling as before that, human carbon dioxide production didn't occur at its current levels.

    1. One other possible natural cause of climate change is the change in the position of tectonic plates. As plates shift and landmasses shift, currents and patterns of the circulation of warm air, and warm water also move, which could be one of the reasons for warm water moving farther north and melting the polar caps, which in turn releases more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This could be one of the reasons for the cycle of global warming we see now.

Over the course of its history, Earth has gone through numerous periods of warming and cooling. This can be attributed to natural fluctuations in atmospheric carbon dioxide levels, which can be seen by studying glacier lengths and our oceans.

  6. The emission of CO2 and other greenhouse gases into the environment is a viable natural cause of global warming. The increase of CO2 leads to global warming, thus causing ice caps to melt such as glaciers. This will have the effect of flooding and massive migration around coastlines due to the economic activity and people that surrounds the coastlines.

One potential natural cause of climate change is solar activity. Our sun goes through cycles of radiation output, sometimes emitting more or less due to the number of sunspots present on the sun’s surface at a give time. When there are more sunspots, the sun releases more radiation which reaches Earth and aggravates the green house effect, leading to higher global temperature.

Climate change can be caused by volcanic eruptions. In the past, El Chichon and Pinatubo have lowered the temperatures for two to three years after the massive explosions. Although volcanoes emit a smaller amount of CO2 than humans, they still have caused temperature changes in the past and have effected global temperatures.
