Also, that these trends happened before the industrial revolution shows that there is a natural cycle to global warming and cooling as before that, human carbon dioxide production didn't occur at its current levels.
One other possible natural cause of climate change is the change in the position of tectonic plates. As plates shift and landmasses shift, currents and patterns of the circulation of warm air, and warm water also move, which could be one of the reasons for warm water moving farther north and melting the polar caps, which in turn releases more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This could be one of the reasons for the cycle of global warming we see now.
