The carbon cycle is how carbon dioxide is cycled throughout our environment. It is basically stating that it cannot be created or destroyed rather it cycles through different stages. It sits in a gaseous form as a part of the atmosphere. Then through condensation it falls to the water, and through evaporation it returns to the atmosphere. Obviously that is a much more simplified idea of the process, but overall that is the general concept behind it. Carbon is simply recycled through out the environment. Now if carbon dioxide were not soluble that would have major effects on the environment. First is that carbon dioxide is a temperature stabilizer in the ocean so if it want there the temperatures would be to haywire for any animals to survive. ReplyDeleteWithout solubility of carbon dioxide in the environment, the ecosystem would become unbalanced due to how essential CO2 is in terms of providing organisms with a stable balance in the atmosphere. It will also begin to create a rise of temperature to an extreme that can not be resolved through man-made efforts, because no carbon dioxide will be absorbed into the water. If CO2 is not soluble in H2O, then organisms in the oceans and other water-ways will not be able to survive, because carbon dioxide is the core reason they are able to breathe under water. As indeterminable as it appears, the environment would suffer unbearably. Everything we know today would be different, diffusion within the carbon cycle would not be regulated. Carbon Dioxide is a core element in the carbon cycle, because it is constantly moving and traveling through many forms of our environment, such as ocean, air, and rocks. Insoluble CO2 is unimaginable, because our planet is already increasing in temperature through global warming and posing a threat to our environment, however if Carbon Dioxide was insoluble, the threat would increase ten-fold. The atmosphere we are so easily adapted to will have noticeable changes, such as glaciers melting at an extreme pace, rising levels of elevation in the sea and many other changes.

The carbon cycle is how carbon dioxide is cycled throughout our environment. It is basically stating that it cannot be created or destroyed rather it cycles through different stages. It sits in a gaseous form as a part of the atmosphere. Then through condensation it falls to the water, and through evaporation it returns to the atmosphere. Obviously that is a much more simplified idea of the process, but overall that is the general concept behind it. Carbon is simply recycled through out the environment. Now if carbon dioxide were not soluble that would have major effects on the environment. First is that carbon dioxide is a temperature stabilizer in the ocean so if it want there the temperatures would be to haywire for any animals to survive. In terms of global warming a lack of carbon in the water means an increase of carbon in the air raising the temperature, and causing a rapid increase in speed of melting ice caps. Had carbon dioxide not been soluble it would drastically raise water temperatures and be harmful to the organisms in the water.

ReplyDeleteFirstly, the carbon cycle is the process where primarily carbon dioxide, but other types of carbon also go through this process, passes through the environment. It is necessary for photosynthesis, which produces oxygen that is needed for everyone using respiration to survive. A lot of photosynthesis happens by algae in the water therefore carbon dioxide solubility is very important not only for the marine life but also for the ones living on land. The oceans absorb a lot of carbon dioxide which is a greenhouse gas; therefore, they play a vital role in keeping global temperature down. Now if carbon dioxide was not soluble in water our atmosphere would contain a lot more of this greenhouse gas which would raise the global temperate. This would accelerate our trend of the world average temperature rising by a significant amount.

If carbon dioxide was not soluble both humans and animals would not be able to survive on the planet. This is due to the fact that the earth’s overall temperature would greatly increase. The ocean contains a lot of carbon dioxide; however, if the carbon could not dissolve in water then it would appear in the earth’s atmosphere, which would lead to rising temperatures. Furthermore, the polar caps would melt at an even faster pace, which would cause more carbon to be in the air as well. Additionally, the carbon process is the way in which the earth recycles carbon atoms by distributing them through the food chain. Ultimately, carbon not dissolving in water would lead to deficiencies in the carbon cycle
ReplyDeleteIf carbon dioxide was not water soluble, the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere would increase drastically, which in turn would rapidly increase global warming.When humans and other animals release carbon dioxide into our atmosphere, trees and oceans work together to absorb it from the atmosphere. The carbon is only released into the atmosphere again with the burning of trees or fossil fuels. If the carbon couldn’t be absorbed into the water, it would all reflect back into the atmosphere, thus warming the earth. The drastic increase in temperature of the earth would accelerate climate change and the consequences that accompany it. These side effects include, large-scale natural disasters all over the world, the melting of polar ice caps and desalinization of the ocean, and habitat destruction that results in the extinction of many different species of organisms, among many others. The water solubility of CO2 is crucial in maintaining global temperatures and slowing the rate in which global warming happens.
ReplyDeleteThe carbon cycle involves the production, usage and renewal of carbon compounds throughout earth and living organisms. A key component in this process is carbon dioxide. CO2 is crucial to photosynthesis in plants and also helps keep chemical balances in water and the atmosphere. If CO2 could not be absorbed by water, the consequences could be dire for earth and living organisms. Too much CO2 in the atmosphere leads to the "greenhouse affect," a situation we are currently dealing with. The greenhouse affect leads to an increase in earth's temperature. The results of this climate change would have devastating affects to every organisms way of life. Therefore, it is essential to life that CO2 can be dissolved by water.

According to the carbon cycle, if carbon dioxide was not soluble in water, this would affect daily life on Earth because then the gas would dissolve in air which would increase temperatures. It would increase temperatures because carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas which traps heat within the atmosphere, thus leading to global warming and a climate change. As the temperatures increase, polar ice caps would melt, leaving the polar inhabitants to become endangered or even extinct, the desalinization of ocean water, losing habitats, etc. If there were no CO2, the entire earth would be covered in ice and it would be a frozen world. Ultimately, the carbon cycle is the presentation of the flowing of carbon between air, land, water, and all other living organisms. The importance of the carbon cycle is that it keeps the earth warm and suitable for life. Carbon dioxide is produced by animals, trees, humans, and burning of fossil fuels or trees. Carbon dioxide is diffused into the living tissue through photosynthesis and its return into the atmosphere through respiration, the decay of dead organisms, and the burning of fossil fuels. In the end, the oceans and all other bodies of water soaks up the carbon dioxide gas in order to create a balance of the diffusion of gas so that there wouldn’t be an increase in temperature of a drastic decrease in temperature.

DeleteThe Carbon Cycle is essentially the exchange of carbon and carbon oxides between the atmosphere and the soil. The cycle is magnified is soil is near farms where there are a lot of animals or near factories that constantly produce fossil fuels. Carbon is released into the atmosphere through either the burning of fossil fuels or due to respiration from plants and animals. Carbon is stored in the soil or in the vegetation. When animals or plants die, the decaying of the organism releases carbon into the soil, where it is absorbed and stored in fossil fuels which are then used, releasing the carbon. The carbon mixes with the oxygen in the atmosphere and produces carbon dioxide. If carbon dioxide was not soluble in water, carbon wouldn't absorb into the soil or the atmosphere as well as it does regularly. Sea creatures, who build their shells out of the dissolved carbonates, wouldn't be able to build their shells. They would have to find a different way to construct their shells. Carbon dioxide would build up in the atmosphere since the carbon that is released would continue to bond with oxygen and create more carbon dioxide. Carbon would still be produced and broken down by plants, animals, and decaying organisms. Because animals also produced carbon dioxide in their waste, the runoff into waters would cause carbon dioxide to build up in the water. Water would no longer be a safe place for water animals and plants and swimming. If it is a fresh water source, the ability to get clean water from it would be almost impossible depending on its amount of exposure to the carbon dioxide. With the increase in the production of fossil fuels, the global warming and clean air problems would both get worse.

If carbon dioxide were not soluble in water Earth would be effectively screwed. Almost ninety-three percent of carbon dioxide is stored in algae, vegetation, and coral under the sea. If that were to disappear, the whole world would be dealing with a new ballgame when it comes to fossil fuels. Without that outlet for CO2 to be absorbed, we would effectively face annihilation. Our ozone layer would disappear rather quickly and that would snowball into the death of thousands of species including, most likely, our own.

As carbon is essential to all life, it would definitely have a major impact should it not be soluble in water. For one, it would destroy all marine ecosystems. Life would not be sustainable in an carbon-free environment. Plants would die, as there would be no carbon for them to complete photosynthesis, which would, in turn, cause the death of other ocean life. In addition, if carbon was not soluble in water, it would have major repercussions on land. The oceans are a major sink for carbon, so if it could not absorb carbon dioxide, that would result in more carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. This would directly lead to rapid increases in global warming, which would have detrimental effects on our entire planet.

The carbon cycle essentially ensures that there is carbon come in to and out of every part of our world, traveling into the ground and out into the atmosphere. If carbon was not soluble in water the whole carbon cycle would be different and would change our whole planet. With the carbon no longer being absorbed by the water, the carbon would remain in our atmosphere. With more carbon dioxide in our atmosphere the rate at which the Earth would warm would grow exponentially and would cause there to be deleterious effects on our lives as humans and mammals.
ReplyDeleteCO2 is necessary for life on earth. CO2 travels through a cycle that ensures it is utilized everywhere it needs to be all the way from the atmosphere to the soil. If C02 wasn't soluble in water there would be an excess in the atmosphere contributing to the greenhouse effect. That would result in a much more rapid global warming effects.
